Supporting Culturally and Linguistically Diverse patients impacted by Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence

Overview

Primary care professionals can often be the first and sometimes only point of contact for women affected by Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence. For those from CALD communities, the challenges are often greater—compounded by language barriers, migration-related stress, cultural stigma, fear of authority, and unfamiliarity with available support services.

This session will focus on equipping you with tools and knowledge to:

  • Recognise physical signs and understand the often silent calls for help
  • Identify key flags and indicators that may suggest abuse or coercion
  • Approach care with cultural sensitivity and an understanding of how cultural context influences disclosure and help-seeking
  • Apply core principles for supporting clients in a trauma-informed, safe, and respectful way

We'll be hearing from Kittu Randhawa, Project Lead at The Indian Crisis and Support Agency, who brings extensive expertise in cross-cultural practice, primary care, and gender-based violence.

This webinar has been developed by Kittu Randhawa in consultation with subject matter experts.

This event is hosted by Nepean Blue Mountains PHN, in partnership with Central and Eastern Sydney PHN and Hunter New England Central Coast PHN.
