Domestic and family violence is a significant public health and societal issue that can have a lifelong impact on those experiencing it. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, an estimated 2.2 million people had experienced abuse from a partner with one in 6 women and one in 16 men. We know that GPs can be the first point of contact for individuals experiencing abuse so its important they are equipped with the skill to recognise and respond appropriately.

The Care and Connect – Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Program is funded by the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing and aims to improve the primary healthcare system’s response to Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV), including Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) through the delivery of training and direct support from the Care and Connect Linkers.

This session is the first in a 3-part series. It is recommended participants complete this session, prior to the Introduction to Child Sexual Abuse and Introduction to Sexual Violence (within the context of primary care). Both sessions are now available on the PHNs events page.
