Care and Connect – Sexual Violence and Child Sexual Abuse Launch

PENRITH

Overview

We would like to invite GPs, practice nurses, practice managers and allied health professionals to the launch of the Care and Connect – Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence (DFSV) and Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) Program at the Western Sydney Conference Centre (WSCC).

This evening event will include presentations on  sexual violence and child sexual abuse within the context of primary care, as well as an expert panel discussion and question and answer forum.

Domestic, family and sexual violence is a major health issue in Australia, with GPs seeing more and more patients who are impacted. Patient consults can be complex, as they may require time to build trust for disclosure and navigating the broad referral pathways.

  • This event will feature presentations on the development and delivery of the sexual violence and child sexual abuse program and resources, risk assessment, case studies and referral pathways.
  • It will provide an opportunity to network with others from primary care who have engaged in the program and meet the team from Wentworth Healthcare and Relationships Australia who deliver this service.
  • The evening will also provide information on how to access the Communities of Practice where primary care can come together in a supported environment to share concerns they may experiencing in relation to DFSV and CSA.

Learning Outcomes

  • Outline the deliverables of the Care and Connect – DFSV and CSA Program and how the model can be applied in a primary care setting.
  • Identify some of the signs of sexual violence and child sexual abuse in a primary care setting.
  • Describe why people find it difficult to disclose DFSV and CSA.
  • Distinguish the different referral pathways and support services available.
  • Define how vicarious trauma can impact you and how to access support for yourself through the Communities of Practice hosted by Relationships Australia.
