Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR) for Mental Healthcare Training

Overview

We are delivering workshops about the Initial Assessment and Referral-Decision Support Tool (IAR-DST) – A mental health initiative developed by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. The training is focussed on using the online Decision Support Tool (DST), a standardised and evidence-based mental health support tool designed to guide clinical judgement for mental healthcare. GPs and other providers from the our region are invited to participate in training to learn about, embed and utilise IAR and the DST.

Workshop 2 is a 90-minute live interactive webinar where participants can engage in group discussion, undertake practical activities through a case study, and engage in a question and answer session with the group and our IAR Training and Support Officer. Topics include:

  • Using the online DST

  • Practical activity

  • Discussion and reflection from groups

  • Check-in, supported decision-making, care preferences, care type

  • Overview of adaptations for different population groups

Workshop 1 must be completed prior to attendance at Workshop 2. Visit the IAR Training page to know how to access Workshop 1.

A one-off $300 (GST exclusive) payment is available for GPs only who complete IAR-DST training. RACGP CPD and ACRRM hours apply.
